11 Genre Research Seven Title Sequences

Seven

When watching the opening sequence  to the film Seven i thought it was amazing on how they used so many different editing techniques and also the different camera shots used. Within the opening sequence there were sounds of a girl screaming, this instantly gives you an idea on that the theme is a thriller as it's a convention of a thriller. There were also disturbing images of a mans hand holding a razor blade this also relates to the titles being used as the font of the titles are as if they have been scratched into something, the font is almost child-like, as if a child as written them. There were many close ups used within the opening sequences and also a lot of distorted images, this could represent that someone has  distorted mind within the main part of the film. We also see the titles cross over from distorted images to a black background and as this is happening there is gathering of the tempo and the editing soon matches the sound track being used in the background.
Continuity is also created during the opening sequence across the titles to the film.

There is also a good use of shadows within it which is a convention of a thriller film, it creates a sense of suspense, within the opening sequence there is use of red this is a connotation of a thriller as when you think of red you think of death and danger which is exactly what the director is trying to put across. When looking at this opening sequence i would say the target audience is for older teenagers and adults. What i really like about this opening sequence is that there is so much editing in there, it makes it so effective and makes yourself ask so many questions, it also gives you loads of ideas of what the films is going to be about, which is what the opening sequence is meant to do.
