13 Genre Research Hostage Title Sequence

Hostage

When watching the opening sequence to the film Hostage i found it feel interesting and i wanted to find out more, When the first titles came out it was a black background and a mysterious like sound track came out, it then crossed over to a cartoon image of a city featuring a lot of red being shown , this is a connotation of a thriller film as when thinking of red you think danger and this is exactly what this film is trying to get across. There is then different close ups of different parts of the city being shown, this city is deserted with a lot of shadows being involved. The shadows are a convention of a thriller as most thrillers use them. The font colour changes from red to black to white this could represent that in this film there are innocent people involved but also villains and protagonists within the film. There are sounds of police cars and then images like the prison which match the sounds and titles, there are a lot of images showing different people holding guns this instantly gives you the idea of its going to be a violent film. There are uses of low angle and high angle shots as well as close ups to emphasize this deserted city with only a few people with guns in.

I would say this film was mainly targeted at male adults just because of the images shown. I do like this opening sequence and the reason for that is because it makes the audience ask questions and it gives you hints to what the film is going to be about, there is good use of editing and camera shots also in there.
